2016 Yungaburra Triathlon postponed

Due to the low water level at Lake Tinaroo, the Yungaburra Triathlon will be postponed to
the second quarter of 2017 to ensure a quality experience for competitors.

Organising Committee Chair, Councillor Samantha Banks emphasised that the event will
still occur however at a time when the lake is more likely to have sufficient water for the
swim leg of the events.

“Sunwater have advised that the water level in Lake Tinaroo is likely to drop a further 1.5m
in the next five weeks, which may cause safety issues for competitors.

“We are reluctant to change events to duathlons and are therefore postponing the event.

“Competitors that have already registered will be offered a full refund or the ability to hold
over their registration until next year,” confirmed Councillor Banks.

“It is likely that the annual event, usually held in November, which has drawn over 500
competitors each year since commencing in 2014 will be rescheduled to a time when we
can be assured of safe water levels and during a cooler time of the year.

“The decision to postpone was not taken lightly and it is better to have made this decision
now then to leave it for another couple of weeks,” concluded Cr Banks.
